🦃 The First Thanksgiving: A Story for Grade 1 🍁

Imagine a long, long time ago, almost 400 years ago! A group of people called the Pilgrims sailed across a big ocean in a ship called the Mayflower. 🚢 They were looking for a new home where they could be free.

🏡 A New Home and New Friends 🤝

When the Pilgrims arrived, they were in a place we now call Massachusetts. But it was very hard! They didn't know how to grow food in this new land, and many of them got sick during the first winter. 🤒

Luckily, they met some Native Americans called the Wampanoag. The Wampanoag people were very kind and helpful. They taught the Pilgrims how to grow corn 🌽, beans, and squash. These are called the "Three Sisters."

🥳 The First Thanksgiving Feast 🎉

After their first harvest, the Pilgrims were so thankful that they had food to eat! They decided to have a big feast to celebrate. They invited the Wampanoag to join them. They ate together, played games, and gave thanks for all the good things they had. 🙏

We don't know exactly what they ate, but it might have been:

• 🦃 Wild turkey (maybe!)
• 🦌 Deer (the Wampanoag brought this)
• 🌽 Corn, beans, and squash
• 🦞 Seafood like lobster and clams

Today, we celebrate Thanksgiving to remember the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag and to be thankful for all the good things in our lives – like family, friends, and food! 💖 It's a time to share a special meal and spend time with the people we love.
